EFI wont start for some reason?? never had this issue before

Postby rtreads » Tue Jun 11, 2013 8:49 pm

EFI and wont start... hasn't had this issue ever in 5+ years.

I tried to take the bronco out today ( I have only driven it once after getting it back from my recent push rod issue) and it took a long crank to start. Once started it was revving from about 500rpm-1100rpm. I had to hold like 5% throttle to keep it running like this. I turned it off after running for 4-5 seconds, and now it wont start. Some times now when I turn the key, the fuel pump runs and runs for much longer than the 2 second pressurization cycle on a normal startup. And other times now when I turn the key the fuel pump runs for like .10 seconds. It wont start at all now.

I dont have a fuel pressure gauge. It has never had this issue.

I am wondering if Elite did something when putting it back together? They power washed the engine bay and now there is a white sediment residue where the water collected before drying. Maybe these minerals did something to a plug? ...just a long shot guess.

Any advice on what to try would be helpful. I dont get much opportunity to drive it and there seams to be MANY more issues than not lately.

Thanks guys,
Ryan

I don't know which EFI wiring harness you're using, but most of the ones that have relays in the engine compartment do not like the power washer. I've had issues in the past (basically the stock Ford C302 harness, '93 'Stang) where the fuel pump relay would get water in it and would run until:
1. Wearing out the battery.
2. Destroying the relay.
3. Burning up the pump.
4. All of the above.

I'm leaning toward a fuel pump/relay issues, but they could also have dislodged some wiring vic. the TPS or IAC.

That sounds familiar - had so much trouble snow bashing until I found the relay getting "splash-back" and shutting the pump off. I moved the relay higher under the hood and all has been well since.
