66 won't prime fuel pump

I can't get a new fuel pump here till Tuesday, so I thought I'd ask.

Is there anything I should know about the fuel pump on a 66 with a 170? Its a strange looking contraption.

It will run as long as I dump fuel down the carb, but the pump isn't pumping fuel. There is a clear, in line, fuel filter just before the carb, and its still empty, despite running the motor by hand for quite some time.

I'm guessing the old pump went bad after sitting for the last few years. But any advice is appreciated.

The vacuum lines from the top of the pump are just connected together with a short section of vac hose. I looked at some pics, and that doesn't seem right. Where should they connect?

To the manifold if I recall correctly. The '66 fuel pump is vacuum actuated.

I'm confused. Is the fuel pump also a vac pump? Or is it vac actuated? The instructions above mention the fuel pump arm & a cam eccentric.

There is a plug in the side of the intake manifold, where the vac line should hook up. Also my vac wipers have been replaced with electric. So one side of the pump should be capped off?

Yeah. It's confusing to me too. Seems as though it is a mechanical fuel/vacuum pump. Don't know where I got vacuum actuated from.

I'm guessing the vacuum side of the pump adds extra vacuum to assist the wipers. Maybe engine vacuum couldn't keep up without some help.

If that is the case, it has nothing at all to do with why the pump won't prime.

The vacuum lines were for the vacuum driven wipers, which sucked bad. Buy a fuel pump for anything else with a 170 and it won't have the vacuum lines and will also be a lot less $,
