AIR INTAKE QUESTION

Postby Strike2 » Mon Jan 07, 2019 7:55 am

I'm using a 96 Explorer EFI set up and have a question on the air intake. I'll be using a K&N cone style filter and was wondering if I need the 2-sensors pointed in red arrows. I believe the top is a air charge temp sensor?? and the bottom is a air flow sensor?? correct me if I'm wrong.

I will also trying to use the upper 90 degree plastic elbow tubing for my conversion.

I had Garry reprogram the computer and used his utube tutorial to rewire the explorer wire harness but that was a year+ ago and need to find where I stashed the re-worked harness lol

I think you meant Red arrows?

I can't help ya there, but you might look into the AEM dry-flow universal cone filters. No need for the right oiling to filter the air. And perhaps a good prefilter sock.

oops, yes red arrows

Defiantly going dry filter, I tried a oil filter on the XJ and hated it as it would clog up really bad in dusty condition. Good point on the pre-filter

Airaid makes good filters and pre filter socks. Available on Amazon Prime.

I’m almost certain you need both of those sensors.

I do have the air temperature sensor (top red arrow) and I think the only other sensor wired upstream of that is the MAF. And you'll have to utilize a dry filter. The K&N filters with the oil will gum up your MAF sensor.
