Post Rear axle leaking again...
So working on my bronco tonight and noticed the rear axle wheel bearing seal is leaking again, just replaced it a couple of weeks ago.. everything looked good and I was extra careful putting it back together. This axle uses the 78/79 style bearing/seal...

Any ideas on what i can do to stop it? As far as I know this axle only has 1500 miles on it.. haven't really abused it and only have a couple of wheeling trips on it and maybe have 200 miles on the bearing/seal that i just put in

thoughts?

Your axle shaft has a groove in it or the seat for the seal isn't sealing to the seal?? There is some silicon stuff that you can use to put between the seal and the housing (the name escapes me), but it was pretty expensive stuff.

I think its called Hylomar... I have some black RTV I will probably try here sooner or later.. its stopped leaking but I think on the trail it jars it just enough to leak at the race/axle.. its not a bad leak and funny thing is the other side is dry as a bone.. so just this one side. Its a bit lower on the priority list right now but I will tackle it in a week or two.

Another thing to consider could be your axle vent is plugged which would cause pressure to build when driving etc and that could cause a "blow by" leak. Takes just a few minutes to check/unclog it may be worth the look, although you said the axle only has about 1500 miles on it. Not sure if you have been out wheeling or been somewhere it could of been gunked up.

My guess then would be a groove in the axle like the others. You could use a SKF Speedi Sleeve they are not that expensive and are made for groove situations for axles, mains and any other wear items with a seal. I also believe you can get offset seals that move the seal just slightly for same situations.
