Pertronix electronic ignition conversion 1281

So I watch the video on how to install this, it takes about four minutes right!

I took everything out of the distributor and wire brushed it up real nice. I put it back together with the new elec. ignition and flamethrower coil and now it runs like Poo Poo!

I'm not running a ballast resistor. (fyi)
1 ignition wire to coil
1 + Red wire from Ignitor to coil
1 - Black wire from Ignitor to coil
Ground wire re-installed inside dizzy

The directions say if the engine doesn't start, or if it starts and runs rough at idle, then to disconnect the positive red wire from the coil and run it straight to the battery to see if there is low voltage. It says that if it starts, I have low voltage? Well it started same as it did before and ran just as badly?

I also reinstalled the stock coil and nothing changed. Messed with the timing and carb. Still rough.

I'll get the ohmmeter from Gramps Friday after work and see what that reads at the coil.

On that note...I will have absolutely NO clue what to do next??? Could I have the round magnet sleve misaligned? I haven't checked that aspect yet.

I did that one on my 302 and added ballast resistor.
Found the piece that slides over distributor shaft is magnetized it kept going out so I went back to the points and condenser. Works great
I went through 3 of them and still have one new in box

I have been running pertronix on both of my EB. The gap needs to be right on. I think on the 302 it is a few thousands less. It has been 10 years+ since I installed them so I don't remember what I set them at.

Yeah, they have that flimsy little plastic "Gapper" included in the box. Maybe I'll try with my metal gage? .030, I think?

Come to think of it, I think that I DROPPED the little magnetic ring!!!!! banghead

Finally got five bikes, a scooter, my air compressor and other miscellaneous junk out from behind the Broncos so I could roll it out and let it breathe some fresh air today!

After re-reading the directions five times I think I figured it out. The little magnetic circle was not at the correct height. It said to push it down tight so that's what I was doing. It also said that the top of the magnet and the top of the receiver part need to be identical and at the same height. So I pulled it up 1/8". I had them gapped perfectly with the little plastic POS gapper, but I decided to close that gap and get it tight as I could without touching.

VoilĂ ! Success! It started right up, I timed it and it runs great without any backfiring without any loping and a lot less gas smell.

Thanks again Cravenbronco for the offer. I guess I lucked out!
