I know you've been planning a while, but I didn't expect you to have a motor already!! This may very well be the best diesel option for an EB!!

I'm hoping so. The Bronco is fun, but unless it can work, it's not very useful to me. We already have one toy in the garage (wife's Fairlane).

I really need the Bronco to be capable of day-to-day work, light towing, long hauls and decent mileage. I've owned trucks since I was 17 and every one of them could get 20mpg+ if you weren't rodding it. Even my lifted Ranger on 35s got 20mpg highway and 18 city. My old Bronco II made a solid 24 mpg highway, sometimes 26.

I think Kirk's rig is a good example of what a Bronco can do. His is a real workhorse.

And so it begins...

Postby Kinder » Thu Dec 13, 2018 12:29 pm

I’m super excited to see this happen! If this option had been available when I did my swap I would have seriously considered it over my 4bt. I’m glad Cummins has upped the torque rating since that has made it usable in larger than a 2 door Jeep vehicle.

Curious to see this come together. Wonder how you'll like the 160hp for running it in the hills.

I'm predicting it won't be a big deal. The diesel is more practical in real-world conditions. My 7.3 only made 225HP when it was new and it does fine in the hills. The big benefit will be max HP occurring at a usable rpm and the turbo comping for losses at altitude. (3% per 1000 ft ASL)

Also, torque is king.

Lost a little sleep last night thinking about all that has to be done. Lots of replumbing the fuel, hydroboost and PS lines. Rearraging batteries and cables. Re-thinking gauges, wiring, cooling, etc.

I want this done right out of the gate.

Looking forward to seeing everything. Will this one rattle your fillings out? What is your hope on timeframe?

Shouldn't. It's a newer, computer controlled common rail. A bit more complicated, but a bit more refined. I have my fingers crossed since there are very few of these out there in the US.

Timeframe, I want to be back on the road by May. April if possible.
