I found spiser gears for 260 and sirra gears for 180
I found that I can get them from On Track Performance,
Tom's Bronco parts and Front Range Driveline
They are costing anywhere from 160 up to 300
I'm in same boat needing 4.09 4.10 or 4.11 gears for my D44 swap

Try Ron's, he seems to have real good package prices. I bought my SD gear & bearings from him, excellent service.

Would you ever buy an used set, or would this be a bad idea?

Used? But not abused.
Yes.

Inspect carefully, don't buy sight unseen.

If you're patient, good deals are out there. My fronts are used, $50 and went in fine. My rear gears I found new in the box off craigslist with the rebuild kit for cheap.
