In case you were wondering...

Post by akaFrankCastle »

why I have taken so many hiatus from the board recently, this would be the reason.

Congratulations! As you know, we've just been down that road for a little over a year now. It's been rough, but extremely rewarding! If you're seeking daddy-advice, I'll help where I can!

1st piece - do NOT procrastinate on getting things setup for the little one. If you want a nice baby furniture, they take months to come in. Get everything setup ahead of time that you can. And when the day arrives, make it clear what you want of your family and friends. You'll be wore out as will your wife and you may want one or two folks around to help, but more than that is overwhelming!

So maybe that was a little more than one tidbit :)

One tip that we took for our first: Every time we went to the store while she was prego - we bought another bag of disposeable diapers. When Daniel was born we had a closet full (lets face it, he did not need all the room in his closet yet). We has so many we actually exchanged them 2 times for the next size up. Not once did we have to run out because we were out of diapers.

We buy the Costco diaper, two boxes at a time. Now that he is about to transition to the next size, we may only get one.

Also, there are millions of products out there for your baby. You might ask around to see what people actually use and what they don't. We have a few items laying around that are basically new because we only used them once, maybe twice.

Frau Castle's family has this tradition of passing on middle names which I think is cool. So, in the event it is a boy: Calvin Tyler. And for a girl: Margaret Jane. Calvin was my choice. Goes back to the old Calvin and Hobbes cartoons. And I don't think Chester (my grandfather's name) just as the same ring.

I've got a great aunt and a cousin with red hair as well. Both on my mom's side. Frau Castle is definitely hoping for red hair. I'm hoping for 10 fingers/toes and no health issues.

Yup. This would be the first.

Because of the amount of trouble we've had in the past, we're waiting til we hit 20 weeks before we start dropping serious coin on furniture and the like. Happily, that timeline should put us close to the grand opening of that Ikea store in Denver, where Frau Castle has picked out several items.

Our both being transplants to CO helps to alleviate any potential crowding from family.

Stocking up on diapers soon sounds like an excellent plan. I already stock up on paper towels so I can have my own rolls in the garage.

Some very good friends of ours up the street have had two boys over the last 4 years. Very fortunate for us to be able to see what works and what doesn't for them.
