Here's the area that needs more work. Turns out I can pretty much remove the wall next to that hole and be ok....it's apparently a marker hole for Ford and has no use.

You're going to be an expert on Windsor blocks soon-whether you want to be or not!! "marker hole"... : )

Any other holes need trimming?

Haha......regurgitating Woody's advice;). No other areas need more trimming so far.

Those words came back to haunt me today. After I finished grinding and then washing out the block, I was looking at the plugs and just couldn't bring myself to leave them there. So I drilled a hole in each, inserted a screw and pryed them out.

After a bunch of help from the guys at sbftech.com, I learned I need a 1/4-18 NPT tap and then a similar sized pipe plug. Haven't found the plug yet.

What this means is # 3 wash is in the near future:(

You can find the "allen head" 1/4 NPT plugs at any hardware or good auto parts store... easy find. No teflon, use good pipe dope or if boys at SBFtech say so, use blue loctite.

Thanks, I'll check at Ace today. I'm still finding it hard to believe that a 1/4-18 NPT tap will be that much larger than a 1/4-18 SAE thread....but Woody says it will work. Harbor Freight has a set in stock locally so I'm heading up there today.

Here's a couple shots.....one is of the mod I had to make for the one rod bolt...came out pretty good and shouldn't affect anything. The other is just a little of the debris the die grinder created...I put a shop towel over the apposing cylinder just to see what I could catch....after I get done with the plugs, I'll be washing it out again.

I would try to radius the sharp corner in the lower left of the hole you ground out.

That sharp of a corner could create an opportunity for a crack to develop.

Yeah, NPT is way bigger than straight threads, I don't know how they measure it but I've got an 1/8" NPT tap in my new kit & it's huge compared to the 1/8" NC & NF taps. NPT has quite a taper to it.

Yep....odd sizing. I picked up the tap and used a socket to tap the holes. Worked perfectly. Also got some brass plugs and installed them after the wash.

NPT is used on all pipe fittings for water & gas (galvanized & black). I threaded a lot of 1/2" & 3/4" NPT when I was running gas lines for stoves & fireplaces. I think the taper must allow for a better fluid seal.

So the marker hole next to that cylinder p r i o r to the installing the cap screw rods didn't need to be clearanced but with them you needed to hog it out that far? Interesting...

Do you have the complete specs to your cam handy?

Yep, the bolt heads are much taller so I actually had to grind out all the holes the machine shop did. Much better than grinding the rods or using a different cam.

Check page 2 of this thread for a scan of the cam card.....it has all the info on there.

Cool, let me know what you learn. The designer and I had multiple conversations about the type of engine it is, and the type of use I will be throwing at it. It's going to make power right from the get go at low RPMs but maintain a subued idle.

Here are a couple shots before I did the final grinding. These notches were not an issue with the previous rod bolts.

I dropped the rotating assembly off at CAMResearch today for re-balancing so work is at a standstill. Turn around time he says is early next week....I'm going to call and see if I can get it by Friday afternoon.

ADHD here.... boardin I don't sit well... where are those pistons and rods?? : -)

Got bored waiting and installed a ZF/203/D20 into a Bronco buddy's rig Sunday and finished up last night. It's not completed (clutch master cylinder and linkage still) but since I couldn't sit around and drool at the pics of your rig, I had to do something over the weekend!!!

Are you supposed to get them back for the long weekend? Hope so!

Picked up the balanced assembly yesterday:). Almost bought a windage tray there to but I don't have the main studs for it so not sure.
Thinking about ordering up some individual ARP studs for it.

I'll start the assembly this afternoon.

Nice work on that Bronco! Any pics?

Got one piston installed today.....it clears perfectly:) Then I started fretting over the one oil galley plug that I think I installed slightly too far. I tapped the hole, but was concerned about having the plug be flush and now I think it's blocking an oil passage a bit. Working with the guys on sbftech to see if its an issue or not.

Glad you get to work on it this weekend...be tough sitting at home for 4 days... tough part should be over...all because of CHP...

Old pics in my rig, but no pics of the install Sunday...heck, the camera was even sitting on the mobile workbench...we were booking! Loaded his EB on his trailer a bit after midnight Monday(Tues am)... open headers, in the snow, towed it around to the hay field so we wouldn't wake up my wife!! She's very patient, but you can't push the envelope all the time!!! ;- )

Ok! Back on track:). Got all 8 cylinders and rods installed with bearings. Had to buy all new bearings at the recommendation of Woody at FordStrokers.com since the ones included in the CHP kit were crap and a smallish version. All the rod bolts clear by .060 or more.

I also shaved about 1/16" off the cam dowell and now the cam timing gear retainer bolt and washer sit nice and flat:). I did decide to do a windage tray so I ordered a Milodon version along with the necessary ARP main studs and nuts to mount it with.

Lastly, I called up Melissa at the Bronco Hut and she put in a order for the classic hood bubble as well as the Canton rear sump oil pan, pickup, and dipstick.

The pan is 7 qts. The description on SummitRacing is wrong...this is the description from Canton:

"16-670 - 351W FORD '66-'77 BRONCO REAR SUMP OIL PAN (16-670)
This deep sump oil pan for 351W Fords is designed for 1966’-1977 Broncos. It has an 10” deep sump for increased oil control and capacity and provides a 7 quart system capacity. This pan requires our 16-671 pickup.

The Pan Features:
* Crank Scraper
* Slosh Baffle
* Provision For Our Pan Mounted Dipstick
* Two Magnetic Drain Plugs
* Gloss Black Powder Coat Finish"
