1973 Crawler

Postby Jesus_man » Thu Nov 11, 2010 10:00 am

Got a PM over on CB.com and thought this would be a good thing to sign up for.

My name is J.D. and I am a CO native, currently in Falcon. My first bronco was a '74 and bone stock when I bought it. I added F-150 springs up front an Add-A-Leafs in the rear, 33x14.50 swampers. Then an Np435 and disc brakes on the front. weeks later a drunk hit my parked bronco and totaled it. After fighting with insurance a couple months, we finally settled and I turned around and bought a '73 that was setup pretty nicely. It's got a 351W EFI, ZF-5, HP D44 and HD9 both with discs narrowed and 4.10's. It also is setting on 3" suspension lift and 2" body lift with 35x12.50 MTR's.

Since owning it, I have added Hydro Assist steering, a longer arm for the throttle for better control, Rock sliders, rear tire carrier bumper, etc. and the best mod was an Atlas 4spd.

Right now she's down and out after a trip to Penrose last weekend.

Anyway, looking forward to meeting new bronco lovers and also seeing whom I already know!

Hey there - way excited you found us. This club is growing like crazy! A lot of talented members with a broad range of Broncos. From Mild to Wild - we got it all - even have a Nick's Trix! Sounds like you are definitely a hard core trail runner with some great mods.

Welcome to the club and look forward to meeting up sometime.

Hi J.D.,

good to see you over here as well at CPSC. I thought you were in Texas? Did you move back?

Just a little addition from my humble beginnings. With the impending move, we're going thru some items in our house and ran across these old pics. These were my first bronco. You might recall the story about the drunk driver who totaled it for me.

The day the '74 came home:

Big flex:

After Add-A-leaf, F-150 coils, 33x14.5r15 SSR's:

The two that did the work: (dang I still had hair!)

That suspension flexed like a big dog...lol:

Good memories! That was a budget build if there ever was one!

I'd love to do something sooner. I fly out July 16th. Can we swing a week night in the next two weeks?

It'd be cool to overtake a Sonic or something along those lines...

I like the idea of a Sonic cruise night of sorts. Let's do some wargaming in the staging area and put something together!

LOL, I was wondering who would be the first to notice. He said the same thing.

The truth is we were swapping the tranny to an NP435 over the weekend, and just had some little button up items left on Sunday. When I got back from church, Ty had got most of it done and looked as you see him in the pic. He gets a lot of credit for showing me a lot of what I know about mechanics. My dad gave me a good base, but Ty helped me with general diagnosis and repair. A good guy to have around!

Sad sight for sure. But its better than sitting in a field or being sold. Be sure to add some stabil to the gas and fresh oil. I'd also set a few mouse traps in the crate so they don't get into the bronco and chew up the wiring and seats.

JD,

That may be one of the saddest pictures I have ever seen of a bronco. But knowing she will be sitting there paitently waiting for your safe return makes it much easier.

Take Care and safe travels my friend.

Rob, got all that done! Hope it's ok! We made sure and sealed off any holes we found in the floor and put rat poison all around. We'll freshen that every once in a while.

Thanks Greg.
