C4 transmission temp gauge

I'm all about protecting an investment. Which is why I run a trans temp gauge on the Super Duty. The convenient part about that is there is a port right there on the side of the case to put a sending unit. So, as I plan for a C4 install in the future, I'm curious if there is an easy way to install a sending unit on a C4. Is anyone running a trans temp gauge on their C4? If so, where are you running the sending unit to?

Over on CB there were some guys that bought aftermarket pans and had them tapped for a sending unit. dont know where they ran them though. A buck 50 for a pan is steep, at least you can get the provision for the sender

Almost all c4's have only one tapped port on the side of the case and that's for pressure. It wouldn't be a good one to use for temperature because it comes right out of the pump. The same goes for the front cooler port. The best place to measure the temperature is at the pan.

I have one of these to put in my 79. It is also the same threads as the trans temp sensor so it will serve as double duty. drain plug and sensor port in the pan.

Are the pans steel? Find someone with a TIG and install a bung with the threads you want?

I want to do the same thing with mine. I already have a stand alone fan cooler that has a temp switch to turn the fan on and off. I was thinking of running the sensor right next to the temperature switch.

Jeremy the problem with that is you'll not see an accurate temp. My dads it that way and we see temps that would scare off just about anyone. That temp is gonna be really high. To get an accurate measurement you really need to read the pan temp.

That's what I was afraid of. I guess a drill and tap of the pan will be in order for this project.

B&M sells a bolt that has a 1/8 Pipe internal thread . The bolt uses a fat nylon washer for a seal. Drop the pan locate the place and drill a hole and install the bolt. Most all Autometer gauges use 1/8 pipe thread. Unscrew the sender and you have a drain.
Works fine and I have many miles on 2 different rigs.

Yup, that's the Jegs link posted earlier, works well.

Another option most folks don't know, is that you can use one of http://www.summitracing.com/parts/tci-518050 to modify a case fill pan to take the EB pan fill/dipstick. I'm not using that because I'm using the deeper B&M aluminum pans on mine.

I have a pair of tranny temp gauges on the buggy, one in the side of the C-6 and another in the pan and I can tell you there is a significant difference in the heat soak on the case, usually on the order of 30+ degrees.
