gauge cluster and autometer lights out.

Postby Stubborn3 » Mon Dec 02, 2013 5:07 am

So I go out and start up the truck and the lights for both the speedo cluster and the separate triple pod of autometers don't illuminate. What seems odd is that the turn signal indicator in the cluster work and the switch does power the interior light that accompanies the gauge lights when switch is in the "middle" or everything on position. Assuming it's not a fuse since some things are working. Any Ideas on where to start? I have finals this week and work all night so it would be awesome to see how fast I'm going or whether I have gas. Thanks as always.

Different types of lights use different circuits and the headlight switch controls at least 4. The dash illumination is fused by the short fuse. If you don't have power there it's likely the switch is bad.

Turn signal indicators are separate from the rest of the dash lights, they're powered from the turn signals either the front or rear signal circuit, I can't remember which one, and the dome light is not on the same circuit either, mine just popped the cluster lights fuse a few days ago causing the exact issue you're describing, should be a 2 amp fuse in the shortest length glass fuse you can get, mine popped due to a short that I repaired. So chances are it's a fuse, I'd recommend you check them first, if your unsure looking at them, an fast and sure way to check all of the fuses is to check for power on each side of the fuse with a test light, whichever fuse only has power on one side is your faulty fuse, as far as the auto meter lights, they're most likely wired into the same circuit as the cluster
