21 Tooth Speedo Gear

Postby DanHall » Mon Feb 17, 2014 5:11 pm

Anyone have a 21 tooth speedo gear laying around that they could bear to part with? I have an 18 tooth in there now and it's off - reading 58 at 50 mph. One of those things that's been bugging me for a while but I hate spending more in S&H than the part I'm looking for.

Mustang resto shops (like Colorado Mustang) carry them and you might be able to get one at a dealer still. Make sure to get the manual trans version.

I got mine at the dealer for like $7 bucks. I bet you freedom ford could track one down.

Didn't even consider a dealer just assuming they wouldn't have or care to get one. I'll give them a call.

Thanks.

Love when that happens-- since it is rare!

Impossible to tell for sure unless you know what is in there now and how far off it is. There are different drive and driven gears that could be installed.

I pulled the speedo cable and have an 18 tooth gear in there now (yellow one). I used a gps to get to an actual speed of 50mph and looked at the speedo which read 58mph so I was reading 16% faster than actual speed. Then multiplied 1.16 * 18 to get 20.88 or a 21 tooth gear (red gear).

I don't think my abacus can do all of that.
