Varoom varoom!! With a small dilemma,

Thanks to the inspration provided by today's bronco breakfast I came home and hit the garage with a renued vigor and about 45 minutes ago, after just 6 more hours, I turned the key and she fired right up.

Drews little pony lives.

But I have a new issue and would love to get everyone's thoughts - or at least someone who is better at this stuff than I.

The starter spins with the key In "run". It's hard to tell but I think it disengages once the engine fires but I'm not sure.

I suppose worst case I can put his button start back in but I rather wanted to have it just a key start, Is this a sign the ignition switch is bad or is this a sign that I have something miss wired (nice way of saying my wires might be crossed and I have no idea what I'm doing).

Oh and you should see how bright the dash lights are with all new wires. Still plenty to do tomorrow but for today I have to wrap it up.

If anyone wants to come and do some wiring tomorrow, or install a steering column or any number of other tasks, your help would be absolutly appreciated. I'm running out of time here

If the starter doesn't engage the first time the key hits run but stays engaged after returning from start, I would suspect the solenoid/relay is not disengaging. That could be ignition related or relay/solenoid related. But I'm probably wrong.

You could swap solenoids first and see if the problem persists. If so, ignition would be the next thing I swapped. (I put them in that order based on ease of replacement.)

How long after you release from start does it continue to spin? Perhaps a video of the problem?

Greg we might have the wires reversed that we ran from the ign to the starter solenoid . Blue red and brown I think? Or the brown splice might not be needed. If you need some help I can come over tomorrow morning.

Red with blue stripe wire should engage the starter. Should be hot only in start, correct?

When I first turn the key to on, it is not hot, then turn the key to start and it goes hot. So far so good, right?.

But release the key to run position and the wire stays hot, is this correct? Seems like that would keep the starter engaged

Sounds like there's a relay involved. Maybe pull them, one at a time, to isolate the problem. Then you'll have to figure why that relay is latching on START.

Actually it was the switch. Key seemed to stick on start. If I turned it back ever so slightly from the run position the start wire went dead as it should have, yet all the run/key on circuts remained live. So I eliminated the hey start feature, now key-on activates the starter button (Drew prefers the push button start anyway). Best of all worlds now. Button does noting until the key is on, insert key and turn it on and press the button. Goes varoom like a champ



On to the electric fans (ugh!) They are what started this whole process in the first place.

And Justin- you will need your entire team and more time than we have to sort out some of the crapola in my head. Besides the voices keep telling me that they don't want to be silenced just yet... But thanks anyway, we really appreciate the offer.

My switch was bad as well. it was sticking at the start position but, other things were starting to happen too. the internals were falling apart causing intermittent gauge problems (all gauges) I would recommend replacing that switch anyway.
