AOD transmission swap

Postby BillsFan76 » Wed Sep 30, 2015 5:22 pm

Talking to a guy on craigslist in Golden about possibly buying his AOD with dana 20 and AA adapter to swap mine out. My 3 speed manual has some minor leaks as well as the Tcase, Is that a solid automatic transmission in your guys opinion? After having 4 different jeeps over the years that were all standards,I think I'd prefer an automatic this time and if it's a straight forward swap, minus shortening or lengthening the driveshafts, I'd like to consider it. Thanks

Here is the link to the ad, is that price pretty fair?

Seems like a good deal to me, but I'm not an automatic guy.

A lot there for 700

But might get it cheaper since it isn't a 4R70w

Someone bought it before we spoke again so it's back to the ol'
3 speed manual :)

I think D&D72 has an AODE he might be looking to sell.
1975 Ranger Edition that I've had longer than I've been without it.

I run an AOD in mine. It has the 4R70W gear set in it, so the benefits of the wide ratio gear set, without the need for electronic control.

The down side to the AOD is the TV cable.

If I was to do it again, I would put a full manual valve body in it and not need the TV cable.
