Powersteering pump?

Trying to decide which direction I want to go. I currently have a saginaw pump that has worked awesome. Since Im switching to the explorer serp Im wondering if the stock explorer pump can keep up. Im adding hydroboost also. I have an extra dual return sag pump I was going to use. Is it worth using the explorer pump or getting the WH sag bracket for the serp?

I bought the WH's Saginaw mount and have dual return Sag. I intend to use it on my 74' build when life gets out of the way and I can start enjoying Broncos again.

I'm torn about this as well. I may try the explorer pump first since I've already got the pump and brackets, then swap out to the Sag if it doesn't keep up. I suspect it won't since it'll be running both hydroboost and the ram assist.

Rob, I have been using the explorer pump with hydro and turning 35's and I haven't had any issues.....hope it helps

My uncle is running the Explorer(really just the Era of ford) pump in his 96 bronco with ram assist and it seems to do just fine keeping up. I'd run what you have and upgrade later if it doesn't work to your liking.

Thats the thing. I have 2 saginaw pumps and the explorer pump here.

But you don't have the Saginaw bracket....

The easiest thing would be to use the explorer stuff- it bolts right up. It seems like most people have had good luck with it. As Crawler said- you don't have the bracket which will cost you some money and I think a little bit of modification. Also- you'll have to get a serpentine pulley for your Saginaw (unless it already has it). I will say it also took me some trial and error to get it lined up perfectly with the rest of the front dress.

If it were me, I'd run the Explorer one and replace it if it fails.

The Explorer pump will work well and should have no issues keeping up. If you don't think it's enough, Howe will rebuild it and increase the pressure/flow for a reasonable price. I am running the Explorer pump reworked by Howe on my buggy and it has kept up for 6 years.

Probably can be done for less than the vendors charge for a Saginaw pump adapter.
And not hunting for or fitting a serpentine pulley for the Saginaw is good too.

Unless they changed it, the wild horses bracket is only for a 5.0. It does not fit the 5.8. I never had any luck with the explorer pump and I have had at least 5 on my bronco. I talked about the pumps with Phil recently and it seems that the pumps from earlier (96) explorers might be better than the later ones. I used the WH kit and cut a new Bracket on the water jet to make it work with the 5.8. Worked great with 35's and hydroboost until I blew out the o ring between the pump and the reservoir. Still need to fix that.
