Paint gun suggestion

Post by Justin »

I need to buy a new spray gun for painting. Not looking for anything facny, just need something that will do a decent job of laying down paint at a reasonable price. Any suggestions?

What, you too good for HF? ;-) Curious about this too. I know I need a good filter on my compressor but that's all I know.

Just get something cheap. I have a $30 gun I shoot non-critical stuff with.

Tip size should be somewhere around 1.3-1.5. That should shoot primer, single stage, base & clearcoat all ok. Make sure its HVLP.

This one gets good reviews:

You can add a water separator to the air line, then run a disposable inline filter on the gun, like this:

Definitely not too good for HF, almost picked one up this weekend but wanted to see if there were any equally priced options that were better. They actually have some really good stuff if you do your research. Their plasma cutter is supposed to be surprisingly high quality and their 60 gallon compressor is one of the best on the market for the money.

Gunni, thanks for the links, I'll look into those.

Glad you brought this up. I need to pick one up too to paint all my axles, transfer case and driveshafts.

May order that one Gunni posted...

If you want to spend a little more, this looks a lot like something we bought at my old shop:

It would add some versatility to your set up.

I know your thoughts on HF stuff, it has its place. Some is good and some, not so much.

I am glad you brought this up as once I get back to working on replacing the metal in mine I will need to paint it. I just need to get the house project done first.

Gunni,

I have apparently been emboldened by the talents you demonstrated this week end.

I ordered this kit so I can do the paint work myself when I replace my rockers and install the sliders.

Thanks so much for giving me confidence that I won't completely screw it up.

Its not rocket surgery, but it takes some practice. Good luck! Shoot any questions you have at me.
