Help finding a road for a picture

Post by Digger »

I'm looking for a spot near-ish to Denver (say within 3 hours drive) to try and recreate this photo with my Bronco and popup camper.

Image

I'll be doing some scouting this summer, but I'm open to suggestions. Pictures would be very helpful.

2nd for 285, I would think over in the BV/Salida area you ought to be able to get a good shot with some of the Collegiate peaks in the back. If you were willing to go further south I would think a shot with the Sangre De Cristo range would be pretty great too.

285 near Princeton hot springs. There are a bunch of dirt roads that parallel the mountains. Would be perfect.

I was thinking the same thing about 285 near Mt. Shavano. Or Taylor Park area.

That picture has always reminded me of the northern San Luis Valley.
The mountains and the flat valley floor look just like it.

But that is probably a bit farther than you want to go.

How about off I25 south of Castle Rock north of Monument. The Greenland exit. With the front range in the back ground. Lots of farm and ranch roads in the area.

I was just there a couple weekends ago, and was struck by the way the valley floor transitions to the mountains. It's amazing.

Does look a little like N. SLV.

Hwy 285 just north of Villa Grove:

JD - You must have too much time on your hands....

But yes - I agree, probably some roads closer to the Mtns near the sand dunes.

Nah - I've driven that road hundreds of times, so I knew right where to go. I've probably solely supported the police dept. in Villa grove with speeding tickets when I was younger. Girlfriend lived in Rye and I in Del Norte, so this was my route to go see her nearly every weekend.
