Muffler recomendations

Postby Gunnibronco » Wed Jun 01, 2016 7:39 pm

I need to replace my Magnaflow muffler and most of my exhaust.

What are some to consider. I have no idea. Smaller the better.

Quiet? Loud?

I was reading up on turbo vs chambered mufflers. Still don't have a clear idea of what difference in sound it makes. Thinking about going cheapo Summit. They have the right size in turbo or 2 chamber for about $30. They get decent reviews. If I don't like what I end up with I can change easily enough.

As far as loud vs quiet, probably in the middle somewhere. LOL. Don't mind it loud, but would like to be able to talk with the passenger driving down the highway. That probably doesn't help.

My 18" MagnaFlow is quiet at idle and loud when you romp on it, but I'm not sure it'd meet your size criteria.

Yesterday brought a glimmer of hope, when I was actually able to bolt my passenger side BCB header on. I have NO idea why it didn't fit before, or why it does now. The offending flange is still riding on the bellhousing, but with a gasket & some wedging I'm sure I can make the same space I had with the NP (probably less than 1/8"). Just for shits and giggles, I tried to bolt up my exhaust system, and it actually bolted in. It's hitting on all sorts of stuff, and there would be no hope of a transmission crossmember. The 18" Magnaflow (2x2.5", 1x3" out), is very close to my 9" pinion. The muffler is too big, and installed flat. Another big problem is the space two 2.5" pipes take running back that far.

Since I've added new bushings and about another .5" bodylift, there is lots of new vertical space to use. I think I can use the collectors & the first 1' off each side, but from there it will be all new. Thinking 2.5"x3" merge collector & single 2 chamber muffler. If it sounds better than glasspacks, I'll live with it. Right now its about getting it back on the road.

Chad, I have the Bronco Hut muffler from their exhaust system that I might want to replace with a Borla. I don't know if you've heard what this one sounds like, but it is a 3" single in/out Magnaflow copy.

Thanks, I've ordered the Summit 2 chamber muffler. It's crunch time. Time to melt the Visa card. Currently, multiple inbound Amazon and Summit orders, also, SPC Alignment. With Hydratech, AN Fittings Direct, and another Summit to be placed today.
