I have a March 2012 Alaska heli-snowboard trip scheduled & 50% deposit paid. It will be a trip of a lifetime. My choice of tags, this year is, in part, to get into great shape before the ski season begins.

I got a bear tag so I'll have to go out and hike on the weekends, the whole month of September. I don't expect to be successful, just see more land & get into shape. Take my gun on some long walks.

I had a couple elk pref points, but realized the unit I wanted to hunt in would take many, many more years to hunt there. So I lost them for a 1st season bull tag in 66. So my bear hunting will really be elk scouting for season 2 weeks after bear season ends. I'd like one good bull. I'll get a 2nd tag, a 43 cow after leftovers hopefully.

Still waiting on deer, we haven't had much deer hunting since the winter of 07-08 wiped out 80%. The animals are healthier than before that winter and hopefully they will start issuing more tags. I've got 5 pref points & may pull a 2nd season buck tag. But probably not.

It all depends on how the game season goes. Last year I had to bring home a horse.

55's my back yard. Where do you hunt? I try to stay out of the unlimited bull units. I've seen some stupid $#!t.

I was trying to save the points to bull hunt in 76. After realizing how long it would take, I changed my mind & will be hunting 66 from now on. Getting a preference point, and hoping for your 2nd choice really screws your odds.

I agree on the second choice screwing ya, I used to pull a bull only tag 1st season rifle in Unit 12 for years as a second choice. Then they went to the either/or or a cow tag in 12 and I can't pull the either/or as a second choice. May have to go for a cow tag, I miss eating the meat alot !!!! Best there is !!
My friend pulled the muzzle load in 76 with 8 points.....but he's a resident too, shot a SUPER nice bull

If you want to get anal about how the draw works, wade through the "Statistics" pages at the DOW.
After looking at how many desirable tags even go to the 2nd draw, I decided to give up on the preference point thing. The "Hunt Recap" and "Draw Summary" pages are the most relevant. It took me a while to even figure them out.
