[Sold] 5.5" Toms Bronco suspension kit

Post by cwin74 »

For sale is a never installed (to my knowledge) 5.5" Toms Bronco suspension kit. I've decided to go another route so I have no use for it. I have no idea how old the parts are but they seem to be in good condition even after rolling around in the back of my truck for 7 months. There are chips and nicks on some of the parts from being stored for so long... I was assured all the parts needed to install the kit were included.

I'm asking $600 for the kit.

Maybe with the extra weight of the body/frame from your stretch it'd sit closer to 4.5"...

Bah, 4.5" vs 5.5" is no big deal. You know you want to take advantage of this good-fantastic-awesome deal.

Greg - didn't you decide new spring buckets were in the works? You could raise them up and end up with close to the lift you want. You'd have to do the same to the rear tho.

(If I can convince you to build the bronco I want, then I can buy it from you years down the road...)

Nice try JD.

I already moved the stock spring buckets out 2" on each side - at the factory height.... and if you think I am going to cut them off and re-do all that welding just for the practice.... Nope.

As far as building you a bronco.... Well if that is your plan, it is a good thing you are willing to wait years for me to get it done. Progress seems to have stalled the last few weeks. Stupid kids trucks and cars taking all my garage time and resources.... anyone want a couple of pretty good teenage boys - free to a good home, just have to take ALL their junk with them.... Naw, I kinda like them - I will keep the boys. Truth is - I like their projects too, just do not tell them I said so

If I did go with a 5.5" suspension lift, would I have to do something to adjust the pinion angle, what about radius arms? Remember, I am running full width axles?

The front pinion angle is going to be ok. Its a high pinion D44 right? 5.5" will give you more clearance between the diff & oil pan (or mine hits my exhaust).

The rear pinion angle will probably need adjusted, but that is easy with shims, or if you haven't reset your rear perches to match the EB, do it then.

you could run extended radius arms as well... should help with caster and ride...if you go that big

Long radius arms wouldn't be a terrible idea, but they wouldn't be an absolute. You could run some 10 degree C bushings to get back most of the lost caster. As mentioned, pinion angle in the rear is easy to fix, and the front would be fine with that HP 44. You should get it. I've thought about buying this to take the springs and part the rest out.

The 78/79 axles have a little more caster built into the front axles than EB axles. So you'll have to put it together & measure to figure caster. Long arms will help with caster, but you should be able to correct with degreed bushings & regular arms.

hmmmmmm,, I'm sitting on a rock hard supposeded 3.5" superlift. But I measure 11" from top of the front axle to the bottom of the frame now. Any thoughts if this lift would settle into that same range or would I gain another true 1 and 1/2?

I'm sick of staring at the of suspension parts in my garage. First $450 takes this kit home. I'll leave this open for a week before dealing with the 'chuckle-heads' from CL then the price will be going back up to $600. I would rather see this go to a CCB member.

As I said before, "I was assured all the parts needed to install the kit were included." That being said it most likely has everything you need.

It will be on my bronco on Saturday hopefully, I'll take a before and after. It should be a huge altitude adjustment from the sagging stock 68' setup

Good score. Looking forward to seeing the finished product. 5.5" was a little high for my goals, but at that price it was too tempting for me not to make a try for it.

I'm kinda a documentation geek and measure things like height at all four corners now and again after the lift, and also approach and departure angles...

But before and after pics work just as well.
