Aluminum fabricators
Anyone have a good referral for a aluminum fabricator around town? I'm having interference problems with the fan/shroud thanks to my 1" body lift and need some fabrication done to basically move the opening down 1".

can you just cut the bottom to clear? Most shrouds only cover half the fan anyways. Just my $.02

Thought about it...but I think it would be a sin to cut into that brand new shroud. It's so pretty! I am currently mulling my options. Options right now are:
1. Cut new shroud for clearance;
2. Send to shop to weld an extra 1" into top and bottom to get the opening more centered;
3. Find a smaller fan.
Leaning towards #2. Currently looking at #3 to see if the metal fan is a different size than the plastic one.

Option 4- move the radiator mounts down an inch to make up for the 1" BL.

Probably cleanest to move our mounts on the shroud. I'd lean that way too. Let us know what you end up with.

I think your suggestion on moving the mounts is basically what I was getting after in #2. Add an inch at the top, and then cut the bottom mount/flange off the bottom and re-weld and inch higher on the shroud. Should be relatively easy.
Smaller fan is most likely not an option. For the record, the metal and plastic fans are pretty much the same size - ~18".
I'm going to call a few fab shops today (including Blacktop Hobbies; thanks for the suggestion JGZ) and see if they can even fit me in in the next week. I don't want to be waiting for this for a month!

Re: Aluminum fabricators
I moved the radiator mounts on mine which lowered both the radiator and fan shroud so there wasn't any fab needed to the actual shroud. Let me know if you need some help and would like to use my welder. I can probably squeeze some time in Friday or Saturday.

Re: Aluminum fabricators
I added two aluminum strips top and bottom on mine to lower the fan shroud on my 76. Machine bolts holding it together. No way I was going to cut the original mounts. However I'm using the original shroud with the hybrid aluminum extension and not an all new shroud.
If I had an all aluminum shroud I would have the extensions tig welded.

Interesting thought. I may look into this if the welding is cost prohibitive. All I would need is a couple of 2" aluminum straps and some hardware.

Looking into this today...
