Ball joints

Post by akaFrankCastle »

What's the general consensus on the good stuff? I'm going to be in the drive all day with the super duty. Would prefer to replace once.

Spicer or the good Moog. Napa sells Spicer as their own Napa Gold.

Spicer.

Moog is fine so long as you stay away from the "problem solver" series. They tend to oversize the ball joint housings and it stretches the hole in the axle. We get calls on these all the time at work because people try to replace these with something OE sized and it fall through the hole.

Damn. Looks like that is what I used a few months ago. Maybe why I had to fight one side so bad. So does that mean I'm stuck using theirs again in the future? Hopefully I don't have to do that job again soon, either way.

Hopefully if it went it hard it just crushed the ball joint down tighter and didn't stretch the hole. It seems to happen to Jeep D30s and D44 most often. They must have less thickness in their BJ mounts. But yeah, if the hope gets opened up, then you're stuck with Moogs.

If it makes you feel any better, I'm in the same boat. I installed Moog ball joints on my F-250 right before learning that little tidbit.
