Exploder Water Pump ???

Post by mickphatmac »

I bought the front dress (serpentine) for my OLD engine off of an Explorer, How do I know if it's Standard or Reverse rotation...and does that effect anything???
What's the purpose?

IΓÇÖm pretty positive that the Explorer front dress is reverse rotation. Just buy a water pump for the year Explorer you took the serpentine stuff from.

If it's from an explorer its reverse rotation and there is no option to make it standard rotation. You must use the explorer water pump. You might be able to use a 94-95 mustang water pump (same bolt pattern) and fan but I can't guarantee the pulley spacing is the same.

It does matter. Did you happen to get the water pump when you got the explorer SERP setup? If you did, just take the part number into the part store and get the same one. As far as I know, the SERP routing didnΓÇÖt change from 96-01, and they all ran in the opposite direction of the v-belt water pumps.

V-8 explorer serp water pumps and timing covers are identifiable because they donΓÇÖt have a hole or mounting place for a mechanical fuel pump in them. Image HereΓÇÖs a pic of a V-8 Explorer timing cover and w-pump off of a 2001.

IΓÇÖll check the water pump for markings but going with Reverse Rotation as consensus...

ThankYou!!!

All explorer is reverse rotation. I don't believe you can get a standard rotation for the explorer.

If he did find one he would need to make the serpentine belt run backwards for it to work.

Ford did make engines that turned the opposite way for boats so it could be done, but then he would have one forward speed and three to five speeds in reverse.
